Pomona’s Contingent: Six Strong
Pomona is sending six wrestlers, each with the potential to make waves on the national stage:
Lincoln Valdez (106 lbs) – Currently ranked #11 nationally and seeded 3rd, Valdez is looking to showcase his talents on one of the biggest mats in the country.
Angel Serrano (138 lbs) – With a #34 national ranking and the 8th seed, Serrano is ready to battle through one of the toughest brackets in the tourney. This dudes always in the mix. Look for him to be in it eyeing that podium come day 2
Derek Barrows (144 lbs) – A veteran presence, Barrows enters the tournament ranked #20 and seeded 10th. He has experience and is looking to make a major run in his senior season at this tournament and add to his list of accomplishments.
Donovan Symalla (157 lbs) – The freshman sensation was once the #1 middle school wrestler in the country, and this tournament will be a key test as he faces some of the nation’s top high school talent. Great early test for this young rising Pomona star
Kalob Ybarra (175 lbs) – Ranked #18 nationally and seeded 5th, Kalob is poised to challenge for a top finish in a stacked weight class and should get a crack at a few of the countrys top 5 talent. Kalob has the talent to beat anyone in the country on any given day. Excited to see his senior season unfold.
Emerson Claeys (190 lbs) – Rounding out Pomona’s contingent, Claeys brings size, strength, and the determination to make a run. Claeys is a grinder and its hard to find many tougher then him.

Ponderosa is sending three wrestlers, all eager to test themselves against elite competition:
Onofre Gonzalez (106 lbs) – Although not currently ranked in the top 50 nationally, (I think he should be and will be by the end of the season) Gonzalez is coming off two strong performances at Fargo, reaching the finals in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. Expect him to make some noise.
Jalen Burge (138 lbs) – Set to compete in a highly competitive bracket, Burge has the tools to push through and make a statement.
Michael Lopez (144 lbs) – Another strong competitor from Ponderosa, and coming off a National Title winning USA preseason Nationals Lopez is ready to take on some of the nation’s best in his weight class.
